Fondant Cake - THE CAKE

So for my cake, I made a cake with a top hat upside down with a bunny in it like a magic show trick!

I was really proud of my cake! Though the brim part of the hat wouldn't dry fast enough >.<
But I found it cute!

Fondant Cake - Fondant/ Decoration

To cover our cakes, we made marshmallow fondant! Marshmallow fondant tasted a lot better than the store bought fondant we were using for our decorations though it is a lot of work (cleaning) to do to make the marshmallow fondant! I forgot to take pictures of the procedure but the below picture is half of my marshmallow fondant.

Before we had to cover our cake with fondant, we had a day to make the decorations for our cakes. I spent the whole time making a bunny!

I also make flowers to put on the bunny's ears.

Fondant Cake - Basic White Cake

To end this unit each of us had to produce a cake this is covered in fondant and that had decorations that are made of fondant. Everything on the cake had to be edible.

For the cake, we made a Basic White Cake that we learnt to make in Foods 10.

Fondant Flowers

For about two weeks, we learned  about fondant and how to make fondant flowers.

Rolled fondants (we used this type) are like sweet dough. They are made with sugar, water and corn syrup like poured fondants. This type of fondants is rolled out into sheets, and then you can color them and use them for decorating cakes. Fondant on a cake creates a smooth, stunning, seamless covering.

We learned to make 5 different flowers and leaves.

On the first day my group learned to make Ivy Leaves (below) and Lily Leaves (which I forgot to take pictures of).

The second day we learned to make Roses! This was actually really fun to make and pretty too! Way better than my icing rose.

The third day we made Mums (first two pictures) and Button Flowers (last picture).

Fourth day we made Daises! I found the daises the easiest one to make though it took a while for them to dry.

Then we made Carnations which was probably the flower that I didn't really like to make since it looked kind of weird.

Afterwords we made Calla Lilies. This one was also simple to do.

I found the fondant unit to be really fun! Fondant (to my) kind of reminds me of play-dough that you can eat.

Jazz Cabaret - Bruschetta

Bruschetta is an toasted Italian bread drenched in olive oil and is usually served topped with garlic or tomatoes. Every year, our school jazz band would have a show in our school with a theme and they would make it like a actually jazz show with food and drinks. This year theme was "The Panorama Roof Ballroom". All the food the food classes made for this event tried to incorporate that theme in and most of them involved stars.

This was a simple bruschetta recipe with Roma tomatoes, chopped onions, fresh cilantro leaves, balsamic vinegar and olive oil. We used really small star shaped cookie cutters to cut out little star shaped cheese. It was really cute and delicious!

Cake pop

What are cake pops? Cake pops are bit-sized morsel of cake coated in chocolate and stuck on a lollipop stick, that's what. They are really simple to make and eat! You can make an array of different patterns with a simple recipe of cake pops!

Since there was a sale of cake mix, we used cake mix because it was cheaper than using our ingredients and making our own cake.
Before and after we baked our cake.

So the first simple in making cake pops is to crumble the cake!

After you deem the crumbles to be small enough, you add frosting. You add a little at a time until the cake sticks together and you are able to roll it into balls.

We had white candy melt to make Hello Kitty!
Melting the candy mix in the double boiler.
The head of our Hello Kitty cake pop.
We only made 4 Hello Kitties and the rest we just rolled into balls.
We also had some pink candy melt.

 The sprinkles we had.

This pink one was one of the ones I made. I was pretty proud of it!

This one fell off the stick so we put it in a custard cup to decorate...

Hello Kitty! The bow was made from 2 heart sprinkles and 1 circle one.
